Join Teens With a Purpose Just AART Day: Teen Public Art Project on Aug. 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sandler Center outdoor plaza.

Just AART Day (Artist & Activist Relying on Technology) is a fun day that gives teens 12 to 19 the opportunity to be creative and add their personal touch to a teen-centered mural designed by artist Shari Evans, a Hampton University graduate and full-time graphic designer. This event provides another opportunity for the City of Virginia Beach to celebrate youth as they celebrate themselves.

Just AART Day, sponsored by the city Office of Cultural Affairs, is free and open to the public. Patrons can also enjoy face painting, sidewalk art and raffle prizes along with live performances by Teens With a Purpose singers, musicians and youth poets. For more information, visit www.twp-themovement.org or www.sandlercenter.org.

The role of the Office of Cultural Affairs is to develop the vision and direction of the cultural arts in Virginia Beach, assist and direct the Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission, coordinate the city’s Public Art Program, provide contract management for the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, provide administrative leadership to the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts’ 501(c)(3) Foundation and serve as staff liaison to local arts and humanities organizations.

TWP-The Youth Movement, also known as Teens With a Purpose, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit youth development organization.  Its mission is “to create a platform to empower young people to use their voices, energy, abilities and talent to demonstrate their power to effect personal change and positively impact the lives of others through the arts and peer-led programs and events.” The group creates “a safe, non-judgmental environment for self-expression for all young people” and promotes healthy life choices.
