A Month of Sundaes at the Francis Land House

Monday, June 29, 2015

July is National Ice Cream Month and the Francis Land House is celebrating with a month of Sunday Sundaes. Each Sunday’s program will feature a different topic about ice cream.

  • July 5 – “The Sweet Science of Ice Cream” will explore the science behind making ice cream. Become a scientist when we experiment with making ice cream in a plastic bag.
  • July 12 – “Popsicle Art: Ice Cream in Art and Poetry” will showcase the sweet treat in art and literature. Guests can then create their own ice cream-inspired art and poems.
  • July 19 – “The Hand-Cranked History of Ice Cream” will reveal the fascinating origins of the popular dessert.
  • July 26 – Top off the Sunday Sundaes experience with an old-fashioned ice cream social. Join us for ice cream themed games, crafts and activities.

Each program will begin at 3 p.m. at the Francis Land House, 3131 Virginia Beach Blvd. At each program, guests can try a hand-cranked ice cream machine and sample ice cream based on historic recipes, as long as supplies last. Different flavors of ice cream will be featured at each program and participants will vote on their favorite.  The top vote-getters will be featured at the ice cream social. Admission is $7.50 per person.  For more information, please call (757) 385-5100.
