Register for Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation’s 2011-2012 Intramural Winter Swim League

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

This winter, instead of escaping the cold by staying home, come swim! Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is pleased to announce that on September 10th, registration will begin for our intramural winter swim league! The swim league is available to those ages 6-17 and puts emphasis on swimmer development in a fun environment that offers friendly and respectful competition. The swim league costs $100; registration is accepted at all Virginia Beach Recreation Centers.

Swimmers will compete in age groups based upon all their age on November 15, 2011. Proof of date of birth will be required at registration. Each swimmer must be registered prior to their respective team’s eligibility swim. A membership to a Virginia Beach recreation center is also required throughout the season. Practices will be held the week of November 7th through February 9, 2012.

Swimmers age 10 and under must be able to swim 25 meters/yards, and swimmers age 11 and up must be able to swim 50 meters/yards using a good front crawl with their face in the water. They should demonstrate rhythmic breathing, whether it is to the side or facing forward. Swimmers age 10 and under must be able to swim 25 meters/yards backstroke, and those age 11 and up must be able to swim 50 meters/yards backstroke. Swimmers on a high school varsity team, high school junior varsity team, or a USS team are not eligible to swim in this league. Former USS swimmers must submit a release letter from their former USS team.

Please note that Seatack’s team will practice at Great Neck until Seatack’s renovations are complete.
