Friends Group Grants $116,000 to Beach Libraries; Elects Executive Board

The Friends of Virginia Beach Public Library approved $116,200 in library grants for its new fiscal year, April 1, 2015 to March 30, 2016. Among the grants include $45,250 for VBPL’s Summer Reading Challenge for children, teens and adults; $13,845 for teen program support; $7,655 for youth and family programs and $4,450 for adult programming.

The volunteer group elected Jill Burr as its president; Lisa Behun, vice president; Mary Jane Morewitz, secretary; and Talbott Jordan, treasurer.

“We are grateful for the Friends’ continued commitment to the library and the community,” said Eva Poole, executive director of Virginia Beach Public Library. “Their support helps VBPL provide services and programs that are often life-changing for our residents and contribute to the quality of life we enjoy in our city.”
