Pat Deans of Virginia Beach was named Virginia’s Outstanding Library Trustee by the Virginia Public Library Directors Association. Deans was recognized for his contributions to Virginia Beach Public Library as a loyal supporter of more than 20 years. Deans has served on all of the library’s boards in a variety of roles, often simultaneously. He has been a member of the Friends of the Virginia Beach Public Library Board, past chairman and current member of the Virginia Beach Public Library Board, and serves as president of the Virginia Beach Library Foundation Board.

Marcy Sims, director of the Virginia Beach Public Library, nominated Deans and presented the award to him at the Virginia Beach Public Library Board meeting May 9.

“Pat Deans’ insights and suggestions over the past two decades have helped shape Virginia Beach Public Library’s direction,” Sims said. “He has been an active participant in major initiatives, including advocating for the construction and renovation of nine public libraries in the past decade.”

In addition to Deans’ decades of dedication to Virginia Beach Public Library, he has served on many community boards, including that of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. He was a partner at the accounting firm Strickland and Jones until his retirement in 2008.
