Councilmember Moss to Host Budget Town Hall Meetings April 9 and 16

Monday, March 30, 2015

City Councilmember John D. Moss will hold two town hall meetings for Virginia Beach residents to discuss the proposed city budget:

  • April 9 – Great Neck Recreation Center, 2521 Shorehaven Drive

  • April 16 – Tallwood High School, 1668 Kempsville Road

Both will start at 7 p.m.

To view the proposed city budget, there are two options:

  • To explore details of the budget, the city has created a new online program called OpenVB. It’s an easy-to-use, graphical alternative to wading through hundreds of pages of technical documents. Citizens can focus on any aspect of the budget – revenues, expenses, operations and capital projects – in great detail. Every detail is available, at the big-picture level or at the level of individual line items.

To read budget documents, either in online flip-book format or to download as a PDF documents, visit www.VBgov.com/budget. Three documents are available: an executive summary, a detailed operating budget and a detailed six-year capital program.

Two public hearings are scheduled:

  • April 23 at 6 p.m., Green Run High School, 1700 Dahlia Drive

  • April 28 at 6 p.m., City Council chamber, 2401 Courthouse Drive

The City Council will hold workshops to discuss the budget on April 7, 14, 21 and 28. The council will hold a budget reconciliation workshop on May 5 and will vote on the budget May 12.
