Virginia Beach Public Utilities Water is Safe to Drink

City officials advise that the Virginia Beach Public Utilities water system is fully operational, and the water continues to be safe to drink.


In anticipation of power outages in the Pungo/Blackwater/Creeds area caused by Hurricane Irene, the Virginia Beach Department of Public Utilities has established two public water distribution sites.  Residents in the affected areas may obtain drinking water at the following locations:

These sites will be accessible to residents 24/7.  Residents will need to supply and fill their own containers.  For more information about the water distribution sites, call the Virginia Beach Department of Public Utilities between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 385-4631. On weekends or after normal business hours, call 311.  Cell phone users and people outside the city limits should call (757) 385-3111.


For the most up-to-date information regarding Hurricane Irene citizens are urged to stay tuned to local television and radio stations as well as the outlets listed below:

  • City’s VBTV Channels: Cox Cable 46, 47 & 48 and Verizon Cable 45, 46 & 47 will display emergency information including our City operational status and facilities closure notices
