Virginia Beach Names Hill as New Communications Administrator

​Julie Hill, former communications director for the City of Charlotte, was named today as the new communications administrator for the City of Virginia Beach.

 

Hill will lead the city’s newly reorganized Communications Office – a merger of the current Media & Communications Group within the City Manager’s Office and the Multimedia Services division within the Communications and Information Technology Department. The new office will oversee citywide communications, public relations and public engagement for the city. It will operate within the City Manager’s Office.

 

Hill currently chairs the graduate school public relations program at the University of Maryland’s University College. She previously worked for 16 years for the City of Charlotte. She was corporate communications director from 1996 to 2006, and public affairs director for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department from 2006 to 2008.

 

Hill earned a doctorate in interpersonal and public communications from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She also has a master’s degree from Bowling Green and a bachelor’s degree from Emerson College in Boston. She also attended the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia.

 

She will start April 7.
