Share Your Thoughts About Tax Relief Proposals Online

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

The City Council is considering possible changes to a tax-relief program that reduces or eliminates real estate taxes for some Virginia Beach senior citizens. A task force recently concluded that the program is not financially sustainable. The City Council is weighing three options to change the program – to help keep low-income seniors in their homes while managing skyrocketing costs.

The City Council wants to hear your thoughts. Details of the three options are online here. You can read the task force’s full 100-page report here, or read the group’s shorter City Council presentation here.

You can share your thoughts in an online Virtual Town Hall at

A live public hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17, but was canceled because of the snowstorm. It will be held at a later date.

The City Council is tentatively scheduled to vote on program changes March 3, although that may change.  For more information, contact the city’s Budget Office at (757) 385-8234 or
