The Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission is accepting nominations for the 21st annual Human Rights Awards through Feb. 20. The commission recognizes noteworthy individuals and groups who have aided in the understanding of cultural diversity and advocated for the human rights of the city’s residents.

The awards committee will evaluate nominees based on community involvement, initiatives and humanitarianism. Eligible nominees are people living or working in Virginia Beach or anyone who has contributed to the promotion of human rights to benefit Virginia Beach residents.

The commission will present several types of awards. “The Human Rights Commission needs the public’s help in recognizing people in our community that work tirelessly to promote justice, fairness and diversity continuously,” Chairman Cliff Rice said. “We look forward to the nominations,”
