Commonwealth’s Attorney Stolle Awarded for DUI Efforts

Monday, December 22, 2014

Colin D. Stolle, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach, formally received the 2014 John T. Hanna Legal Initiatives Award for Excellence in Traffic Safety from Drive Safe Hampton Roads.  Stolle was presented this award on December 9, 2014, at the Drive Safe Hampton Roads’ 2014 John T. Hanna awards reception at the Princess Anne Country Club.

Stolle was one of ten local individuals and organizations to be recognized for promoting community traffic safety.  According to a news release issued by Drive Safe Hampton Roads, Stolle “became the voice behind Virginia Beach’s fight against impaired driving over the last year.”  During his campaign for Commonwealth’s Attorney, Stolle promised to provide a prosecutor for every DUI case in Virginia Beach, and the office has been doing so since June 30, 2014. No additional staff or resources have been required to accomplish this goal.  Drive Safe Hampton Roads also said of Stolle, “By taking this initiative, CA Stolle’s office heavily assisted local law enforcement and aided in creating efficiency in the court system.” Further, Drive Safe Hampton Roads recognized Stolle because of the public safety fair his office co-hosted with WAVY 10 and Virginia Beach’s Parks and Recreation Department at Mount Trashmore in June.

“I am honored and humbled to accept this award,” Stolle said.  “Virginia Beach leads the state in DUI arrests, and I hope our efforts in the courtroom and the community will change that fact.  I appreciate the effort and determination of my staff to make it happen.”
