Sonia Alcantara-Antoine joined Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL) as public services manager on Dec. 7, 2014.

Responsible for ensuring high quality services and programs for Virginia Beach residents of all ages, she oversees VBPL’s 10 branches and bookmobile, as well as the youth and family, teen, adult and special services units.

“Sonia Alcantara-Antoine is the ideal person to lead VBPL’s public services team,” said VBPL Director Eva Poole. “She has strong background in creating policies in support of high quality customer service, coordinating initiatives for a large library system and in leading diverse teams. We’re thrilled to have her at VBPL, especially as we continue our strategic planning and determine how to best meet the changing needs of the Virginia Beach community.”

Alcantara-Antoine is a member of the American Library Association (ALA) and Public Library Association (PLA), holding numerous board and committee positions at both organizations. She holds a Master of Science in Library and Information Studies from Florida State University and is a 2004 ALA Spectrum Scholarship recipient.
