Tuesday, November 18, 2014

(Virginia Beach, VA) – Grommet Island Park located on 2nd Street by the boardwalk will be closed Monday, November 24 for continued surface maintenance repairs. Weather permitting, the park will reopen the following day.

Grommet Island Park is a fully accessible park, built adjacent to the boardwalk between 1st and 2nd streets allowing individuals with disabilities to easily maneuver across the beach to the ocean. Featuring soft play structures, wheelchair accessible seating, accessible surf-themed play structures and more, this 15,000 square foot accessible play area on the beach is the first of its kind in America. As a valuable resource, Grommet Island Park offers the unique opportunity for active outdoor recreational use by all residents and visitors, including those with disabilities, in order to meet Virginia Beach citizens’ pursuit of a healthy lifestyle.
