HRT to Host Public Meeting Nov. 20 on Light Rail Options

Wednesday, November 12, 2014

Hampton Roads Transit will host a public meeting on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Academy, 5100 Cleveland St., to provide the latest information and receive public comments on the Virginia Beach Transit Extension Study and associated Draft Environmental Impact Analysis.

The meeting will focus on:

  • Potential transit service hours and associated annual operating and maintenance costs being reviewed for an extension of high-capacity transit into Virginia Beach.
  • Potential improvements to the existing bus network that would support an expanded high-capacity service.

HRT is studying four alternatives for extending light rail or bus rapid transit into Virginia Beach: one to Town Center, one to the Rosemont Road area, one to the Oceanfront via the former Norfolk Southern railroad right-of-way and one to the Oceanfront via Hilltop/Laskin Road and Birdneck Road. The City Council is expected to vote on its preferred option in early 2015.

Please call (757) 222-6000, extension 6699, if you require special assistance or accommodations in order to attend and participate in this meeting.
