Virginia Beach to Hold Emergency Evacuation Exercise Friday, Nov. 7

On Friday, Nov. 7, the Virginia Beach Fire Department, Division of Emergency Management and Virginia Beach City Public Schools will conduct an emergency evacuation exercise for Windsor Woods Elementary School, 233 Presidential Blvd.   

The exercise will start at 1 p.m. and will last approximately two hours. During the exercise, emergency vehicles – police cars, fire trucks and ambulances – will be on the scene. Do not be alarmed. It is only a drill.


The exercise is designed to validate the evacuation and reunification plan for the school. The City of Virginia Beach is dedicated to emergency preparedness and this functional exercise will assure that the core capabilities of multiple agencies that protect our citizens are functioning efficiently and effectively.


A media briefing will be held at 12:45 p.m. at Windsor Woods Elementary School and the exercise will be concluded by 3:15 p.m. Participating agencies include:

  • Virginia Beach Fire Department
  • Office of Emergency Management
  • Virginia Beach City Public Schools
  • Windsor Woods Elementary School
  • Virginia Beach Police Department
  • Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services
  • Plaza Baptist Church
  • Virginia Natural Gas
