City to Hold Health Insurance Marketplace Education and Enrollment Seminars

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – November 5, 2014 – The city of Virginia Beach will conduct ten seminars, from November 19 through February 14, 2015, to educate citizens about the Affordable Care Act’s Health Insurance Marketplace, and to assist them with enrollment. Certified Application Counselors (CAC) will be present at each event to answer questions and guide applicants through the enrollment process. The seminars are free and open to the public. They are a collaborative effort between the Departments of Public Health, Libraries, Human Services and regional community partners. 

Following is information about the seminars. Citizens may come at any time during these sessions to apply and enroll in the Marketplace.

The Marketplace is a new way to find and buy health coverage that fits an individual’s budget and meets their needs. Anyone interested can apply and enroll for coverage at www.healthcare.gov.
 
This site also provides information about the types of coverage available, answers questions, and informs the user about services provided and how to customize the options to meet their individual needs. Coverage can begin as soon as Jan. 1, 2015.
 
Citizens may also call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. (TTY: 1-855-889-4325).
 
When preparing to apply citizens should have with them:
  • Social Security Numbers (or document numbers for legal immigrants) for all members of your household (who you will claim on your tax return).     

  •  Employer and income information for every member of your household (for example, from pay stubs or W-2 forms – Wage and Tax Statements)

  • Policy numbers for any current health insurance plans covering members of your household.

  • A completed Employer Coverage Tool (can be obtained at www.healthcare.gov) for every job-based plan you or someone in your household is eligible for.
