Citizens Urged to Stay Inside

Irene #039 – 1 p.m.

Saturday, August 27, 2011

Due to hurricane force winds and the possibility of falling trees, citizens are urged to remain inside their homes.  Hurricane Irene is expected to arrive in the area within the hour.

“It’s simply not safe for people to be outside,” said Virginia Beach Mayor William D. Sessoms, Jr.

High winds and torrential rains are already causing many trees to fall and in many instances, they have blocked roadways. The city will continue efforts to clear roads as soon as possible after the storm.
