HRT to Host Public Meetings Sept. 22 and 24 on Town Center Light Rail Options

Thursday, September 11, 2014

Hampton Roads Transit will host two public meetings in Virginia Beach on Sept. 22 and 24 to provide the latest information and receive public comments on the Virginia Beach Transit Extension Study and associated Draft Environmental Impact Analysis.

The meetings will focus on the latest options for extending The Tide light rail to Town Center, including projected costs, ridership, possible station locations and next steps.

HRT is studying four alternatives for extending light rail or bus rapid transit into Virginia Beach: one to Town Center, one to the Rosemont Road area, one to the Oceanfront via the former Norfolk Southern railroad right-of-way and one to the Oceanfront via Hilltop/Laskin Road. The City Council is expected to vote on its preferred option in early 2015.

At the public meetings, HRT staff and consultants will present the latest proposals and projections, and will answer questions from citizens.

Both meetings will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

·         Monday, Sept. 22 – Renaissance Academy, 5100 Witchduck Road

·         Wednesday, Sept. 24 – Westin Virginia Beach Town Center, 4535 Commerce St.
