Update to City of Virginia Beach July 4 Operating Schedule

  • Visitor Center Kiosks at 17th and 24th streets will operate on a one-hour delay from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.


  • There will be NO trash or recycling collection on Friday, July 4, due to the Independence Day holiday.  Trash and recycling services scheduled for July 4 will be provided on Saturday, July 5. Please have the containers at the curb by 7 a.m.  Bulky items that would normally be picked up on July 4 will be picked up on Saturday, July 5. Those requests must be received in the office prior to 5 p.m. today, July 3. The City Landfill will be closed on Friday for the holiday, and will be open the usual hours of 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 5.  SPSA Landstown and Oceana transfer stations will be open on Saturday until noon.

City of Virginia Beach July 4 Operating Schedule


VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – June 26, 2014 - There will be NO trash or recycling collection on Friday, July 4. Residents normally scheduled for collection on Friday will instead be provided service on Saturday, July 5.


The following Virginia Beach facilities will be closed Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day:

  • All Virginia Beach government offices

  • All Virginia Beach community recreation centers, Owl Creek Tennis Center and administrative offices

  • All Virginia Beach public libraries

  • All Virginia Beach city public schools and administrative offices

  • Francis Land House, Lynnhaven House, Adam Thoroughgood House and Princess Anne County Training School/Union Kempsville High School Museum

  • The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts administrative office and box office

  • The Virginia Beach Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Courts and Clerk’s Offices

  • Virginia Beach City Landfill and Resource Recovery Center

  • Virginia Beach Convention Center administrative office

  • Virginia Beach Public Health Department

  • The following facilities will be open to the public, Friday, July 4, during the following hours:

  • All Virginia Beach city parks* and park facilities – 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

  • Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

  • Visitor Center - Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel –  9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Visitor Center – Chesapeake Bay Center at First Landing – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Visitor Information Center – Parks Avenue – 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Visitor Center Kiosks (17th & 24th streets) – 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center – 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Virginia Beach Farmers Market Merchants – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Bring the whole family to Parks and Recreation’s annual July 4th Celebration, 4 p.m. - 10 p.m., July 4, 2014 at Mount Trashmore Park, 310 Edwin Drive. Free admission; limited onsite parking is $5.
