John Hiatt and Robert Cray Coming to the Sandler Center July 26

Two music legends live on stage together

Tuesday, May 06, 2014

John Hiatt and The Combo & The Robert Cray Band will visit Virginia Beach with a smooth mix of popular and traditional blues at The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts on July 26 at 8 p.m. This concert is part of the Tidewater Mortgage Services, Inc. Great Performance Series. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 9, at 10 a.m.

Hiatt, a master lyricist and satirical storyteller, weaves hidden plot twists into fictional tales in topics that include redemption, relationships, growing older and surrendering, on his terms. His new record, scheduled for release in early July, is musically rooted in acoustic blues, accentuated by Hiatt’s soulful, gritty voice, which mirrors the gravity of his reflective lyrics.

Rock blues icon Robert Cray is considered one of the greatest guitarists of his generation. Rolling Stone magazine credits Cray with reinventing the blues with his “distinct razor sharp guitar playing” that “introduced a new generation of mainstream rock fans to the language and form of the blues”. In April, Cray released his 17th studio album, “In My Soul.”

Tickets to on sale Friday, May 9, at 10 a.m.
