City Invites Input on Draft Recommendations for the Transition Area

Friday, April 25, 2014

A public meeting will be held to present and receive public input on draft recommendations for the future of the Transition Area of Virginia Beach on Monday, April 28, at the Red Mill Elementary School cafeteria, 1860 Sandbridge Road, from 6 to 8 p.m. These recommendations have been prepared by the City Council-appointed Transition Area-Interfacility Traffic Area Citizen’s Advisory Committee. The Transition Area is generally bounded by  West Neck Road, North Landing Road and Princess Anne Road on the west; Princess Anne Road and Sandbridge Road on the north; Sandbridge Road and New Bridge Road on the east; and Indian River Road on the south.

The committee’s recommendations will be the basis for drafting an update to the city’s 2009 Comprehensive Plan as it pertains to the Transition Area. Following a presentation on the Transition Area and the committee’s recommendations, there will be various stations set up around the room dedicated to topics to learn more, ask questions of city staff and committee members, and provide feedback. There are many issues that influence the future land use and development of this area, including transportation, stormwater, public and private utilities, recreation/open space and trail systems, and economic market considerations.
