Virginia Beach Reminds Residents to Properly Dispose of Pool Water

As preparations for Hurricane Irene continue, the city reminds citizens that it is illegal to dump swimming pool water into the sanitary sewer system.  This can be particularly damaging during a storm.  Instead, citizens should dump their pool water into the stormwater system (i.e. yards, driveways, streets, etc.) in accordance with the City Code.  Anyone causing damage to or obstruction of the public sewer system shall be liable to the city for the cost of repairs. 


For the most up-to-date information regarding Hurricane Irene citizens are urged to stay tuned to local television and radio stations as well as the outlets listed below:

  • City’s VBTV Channels: Cox Cable 46, 47 & 48 and Verizon Cable 45, 46 & 47 will display emergency information including our City operational status and facilities closure notices
  • Television Channels: WTKR 3, WAVY 10 and WVEC 13
