Sandler Center Art Gallery Hosts Artist Kathy Jublou

Monday, June 02, 2014

The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts is proud to announce that it will host Kathy Jublou’s exhibit.  Starting June 3, Jublou’s exhibit will take the public on a journey into her artistic beginnings. This exhibit will start with her initial work in colored pencils, which progressed to oil pastels and ultimately to the oils she works with today. Jublou’s ultimate goal is for the public to see that while her style has progressed, her artistic voice and signature, movement and color has remained fairly consistent throughout her work.
Jublou’s source for inspiration begins with photographs. She believes that photographs have the ability to capture the movement of the subject rather than the literal interpretation. Her outlook on artistic inspiration has garnered Jublou much recognition in the Hampton Roads artistic community. Some of her previous work has been included in the Gallery at The Chapman, the Charles H. Taylor Arts Center and the Hampton Roads Convention Center.
Her exhibit will be on view from June 3 to Aug. 23 during the Sandler Center’s normal operating hours: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or during any performance at the Sandler Center. There will be a free artist reception held at the Sandler Center on June 5 from 6 to 8 pm. The Art Gallery is on the second and third floors in the common areas of the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts.
The role of the Office of Cultural Affairs is to develop the vision and direction of the cultural arts in Virginia Beach, assist and direct the Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission, coordinate the city’s Public Art Program, provide contract management for the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, provide administrative leadership to the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts’ 501(c)3 Foundation and serve as staff liaison to local arts and humanities organizations.
