ConventionSouth’s readers and social media fans vote Virginia Beach in Top 5

Thursday, May 22, 2014

Virginia Beach ranked as one of the “South’s Top 10 Hot Spots for Winter Meeting & Events,” by ConventionSouth magazine. The magazine’s readers and social media followers voted online for the cities they felt were the best places to hold a meeting or event during the winter months. Virginia Beach ranked fourth – higher than two popular Florida beach cities and a Southern Caribbean destination.

The Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (CVB) Meetings & Conventions and Sports Marketing sales teams aggressively pursue business, meetings and conventions and sports travel to Virginia Beach. Market research shows that late fall, winter and early spring are popular times to hold meetings, conventions and sporting events. Referred to as the shoulder season for leisure travel, this period is rapidly becoming the meeting industry’s peak season. More than half of Virginia Beach’s annual room nights are booked between October and May.

“The CVB appreciates the support of the ConventionSouth readers and fans who voted for Virginia Beach as one of the top five most desirable Southern winter destinations for meetings and events,” said Al Hutchinson, CVB Vice President of Convention Sales and Marketing. “Virginia Beach has so much to offer meeting, convention and sports marketing business year-round, and that has helped us tremendously in gaining a reputation as a favorable destination during all seasons,” Hutchinson added.

A complete list of the “2014 Winter Hot Spots” will be showcased in the magazine’s July edition and is now available at ConventionSouth is a national resource for those who plan meetings and events held within the South.
