City to Open Two Shelters Friday Night, Two More Saturday Morning

The City of Virginia Beach will open four emergency shelters to accommodate residents during Hurricane Irene. Two will open at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26:

 

Landstown High School, 2001 Concert Drive

Salem High School, 1993 SunDevil Drive

 

Landstown is designated as a general shelter, available to the public. Salem is designated as a medically friendly shelter, for people with special medical needs. Fifty cots will be available for this purpose.

 

Two more general public shelters will open at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27:

 

Birdneck Elementary School, 957 S. Birdneck Road

Cox High School, 2425 Shorehaven Drive

 

The shelters will remain open as long as necessary during and after the storm.
