Department of Human Services Recognized for Adoption Efforts

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

The Virginia Beach Department of Human Services was recognized Monday by Governor Robert McDonnell and Governor-Elect Terry McAuliffe for outstanding service and dedication to the children of Virginia and for its contribution to the success of the Virginia Adopts: Campaign for 1,000.

Virginia Beach was one of six social service agencies recognized for their efforts in promoting the campaign and galvanizing resources around adoption.

On July 22, Virginia Beach hosted the regional kickoff of VAdopts: Campaign for 1,000, an initiative launched by McDonnell to match 1,000 children in foster care with permanent families.  Since January, 977 children have been matched or adopted by families statewide. Thirty youths were adopted through the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services.

The department currently has eight special needs youths looking for a forever home.  If you are interested in becoming an adoptive parent, contact Karen Rountree at (757) 385-3539.  For more information on VAdopts visit http://www.virginiaadopts.virginia.gov/ .
