It’s been a year since Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation opened the doors to Williams Farm Community Recreation Center, and it’s time to celebrate! Visit between1 pm and 4 pm, Saturday, October 26, 2013 and participate in free 20-minute fitness classes, weight room challenges, contests in the swimming pool, and special games and activities for kids. City and community agencies will also be on-site to provide information on community resources, including wellness checks. This event is also easy on the wallet; admission to Williams Farm Community Recreation Center’s One Year Anniversary Celebration is free!
Williams Farm Community Recreation Center is located at 5252 Learning Circle, off Newtown Road and across from Bayside Middle School. This 71,000 square foot recreation center, which opened October 26, 2012, features several unique amenities:
  • Three classrooms specifically designed for early childhood programs;
  • A zero-depth swimming pool with a 156-foot slide that curves outside the building, a current channel, a 13-foot tall rock climbing wall, a children’s play fort and splash pad, and an outdoor sprayground;
  • An indoor perimeter walk/run track featuring views of the swimming pool, weight room, and gymnasium;
  • A multimedia room for teens with a recording studio, green screen, and state of the art workstations for creating audio, video and illustrative graphics.
It is Virginia Beach’s first community recreation center to be submitted for silver LEED certification, integrating environmental stewardship, energy efficient mechanical systems, water quality, and sustainable building design and site development. It also recently won the Best New Facility (Bricks and Mortar) Award at from the Virginia Recreation and Park Society.
