Princess Anne Area Library Celebrates “Ten Terrific Years” with Community Celebration, Local History Series

As the City of Virginia Beach observes its 50th anniversary, Princess Anne Area Library celebrates “Ten Terrific Years” of serving the community. In honor of its 10th anniversary, the library is hosting a celebration all day, Saturday, Oct. 5, beginning at 9:45 a.m. with remarks from City Council Member Barbara Henley and Virginia Beach Public Library Director Eva Poole.

Festivities include displays, birthday cake (while supplies last) and drop-in activities. There will also be a special program for children ages 6 to 12, “Climb Your Family Tree,” with stories and crafts from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration is required.


From Oct. 4 through Oct. 9, the library will host local authors and experts sharing knowledge and stories of Princess Anne County and Virginia Beach history:

  • Kenneth Harris, “Princess Anne County and the War Between the States,”

Friday, Oct. 4, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

  • Mary Lovell Swetnam, Genealogy workshop, Sunday, Oct. 6, 2 to 4 pm.
  • Stephen Mansfield, “Princess Anne County & Virginia Beach: Meeting Challenges and Achieving Successes Over the Years,” Tuesday, Oct. 8, 6 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Amy Waters Yarsinske, “Lost Virginia Beach,” Wednesday, Oct. 9, 6 to 7:30 p.m.
