Discover the Historical Treasures of Bayside on May 18

Take a trip back in time and explore the unique history of the Bayside area on May 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. As you hike or bike along the Bayside History Trail, you will gain insight into how the area along the western shore of the western branch of the Lynnhaven River was settled. Visit three sites and earn a souvenir button to commemorate your trip.


The Bayside History Trail is a perfect excursion for families, scouts and groups to discover the interesting and varied history of this area of Virginia Beach. The historic Bayside buildings offering tours and activities during this event include The Oliver Chapel at Haygood United Methodist Church, the Lynnhaven House, the Adam Thoroughgood House, Old Donation Episcopal Church and Ferry Plantation House. Tours and activities are free and open to the public.


Visitors may pick up “passports” at any of the five participating historic sites and at the Bayside Area Library, 936 Independence Blvd. Passports will be stamped at the historic sites on the day of the event. Those who return a passport indicating three sites visited by 5 p.m. to the Bayside Library will receive a commemorative button. For more information, call (757) 460-7530.
