Virginia Beach Fire Department Recognizes EMS for Children’s Day as part of EMS Week in Virginia

As proclaimed by Gov. Bob McDonnell, May 19 to 25, 2013 is observed as EMS Week in Virginia to celebrate emergency medical service responders’ heroic efforts and commitment to saving lives.
The Virginia Beach Fire Department is a key participant in the city’s Emergency Response System and as such, all department firefighters are trained to provide effective emergency medical care.  Approximately 60 percent of all emergency responses in the Virginia Beach Fire Department are medical emergencies, and more than 100 Virginia Beach firefighters are trained in Advanced Life Support.
The Fire Department is highly active in public safety education and preparedness and is pleased to offer a variety of services in recognition of EMS for Children’s Day on May 22, 2013, the part of EMS Week that strives to raise awareness of pediatric health and safety.  The Virginia Beach Fire Department will be providing: 
  • Blood Pressure Checks

  • Fire Station Tours

  • Child Safety Seat Inspections/Installations at Child Safety Seat Certified Locations.
