Local Author Discusses Funeral Planning with Dose of Humor at Princess Anne Area Library

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Death is something that everyone must face, but it can be a difficult subject to talk about. Not talking about it, however, can plunge a family into a state of financial chaos. Join Karen Jones, WVEC-TV news anchor and author of Death for Beginners, and Michael Leonard, manager of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, as they discuss The Way to Go: Funeral Planning Made Easier.

The program is Friday, July 22, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Princess Anne Area Library, 1444 Nimmo Parkway.

“One of Virginia Beach Public Library’s roles is to provide resources and programs, like this one, to help citizens explore important topics and make informed decisions,” said Virginia Beach Public Library Director Marcy Sims.

Jones and Leonard will offer tips to help you plan, as they share their varied and interesting funeral experiences.  Inspired by her observation of a friend’s painful experiences after an unexpected death, Jones cleverly used the topic of funeral planning to both entertain and educate in her humorous book, Death for Beginners, which tackles topics from the necessity of will planning to organ donation.

Leonard, a licensed funeral director for more than 30 years, has seen countless funerals that have and have not worked for families. He will share his experiences to help you avoid costly mistakes and misunderstandings.
