This summer the Third Precinct took on a project to assist children with reading.  This program was in partnership with the City’s Public Schools, Libraries and Parks and Recreation.  Forty-five children attended a summer program at Newtown Elementary School and twice a week Third Precinct Officers  participated by reading with the children and assisting in various activities.

The goal was to assist the children so they could stay on grade level and also to have positive interactions with the children in the neighborhoods we serve.   The feedback from the officers, staff and most importantly the children was extremely positive.   The Commanding Officer of the Third Precinct, Dennis Hebert, is looking at continuing this project in the after-school program.
