Commonwealth v. Michael Alan Chilldres; Former Police Officer to Serve Ten Years for Sexual Assaults on Juvenile

Monday, August 20, 2012

Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Michael Alan Chilldres, 46 years old, who previously resided in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was sentenced today by Circuit Court Judge Frederick B. Lowe for Aggravated Sexual Battery (5 counts) and Indecent Liberties – Custodial.  Judge Lowe sentenced Chilldres to a total of thirty (30) years in prison with twenty (20) years suspended, leaving ten (10) years to serve.  Chilldres pled guilty on April 30, 2012.

Had this matter gone to trial, the Commonwealth’s evidence would have proved that between 2008 and 2011, Michael Alan Chilldres sexually assaulted a young female on numerous occasions.  The victim eventually disclosed the abuse to a friend and contacted the police.  When questioned by detectives with the Virginia Beach Police Department, Chilldres admitted to the crimes. Chilldres worked in the Services division of the Virginia Beach Police Department at the time of these sexual assaults.
