Municipal Clerks Train in Virginia Beach for 31st Straight Year

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

For the 31st consecutive year, the International Institute of Municipal Clerks will hold its annual institute and academy training sessions in Virginia Beach. The clerks began meeting in Virginia Beach in 1980. Virginia Beach City Clerk Ruth H. Fraser, who has held the post since 1978, was instrumental in establishing the training sessions here.

This year, the sessions are being held Monday, Oct. 17, through Friday, Oct. 21, at the Sheraton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel, 3501 Atlantic Ave. About 60 municipal clerks from several mid-Atlantic states are attending.

Sandi Thompson, a deputy city clerk in Virginia Beach, will preside over the institute and academy sessions next year as president of the Virginia Municipal Clerks Association.
