Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission to Hold “Building Bridges of Understanding” Public Forum on Oct. 20

Monday, October 10, 2011

The Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission will hold a public forum titled “Building Bridges of Understanding – What Does Human Rights Mean to Me?” on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Virginia Wesleyan College’s Boyd Dining Hall, 1584 Wesleyan Drive.  Current human rights concerns, present in the diverse community of Virginia Beach, will be addressed. The format will provide an open, safe and engaging environment for discussion.

The forum will have many elements, including providing attendees with the findings and recommendations from previous meetings with citizens.  Citizens will have the opportunity to participate in discussions and fully engage in areas they would like to see improved.

“The Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission is holding this forum to provide a better understanding of human rights concerns and issues, educate the community on our diversity,  and be the conduit for groups to work together to improve human relations in Virginia Beach,” said Commission Chair Fay Silverman.  “We encourage all members of the community to take part in this forum.”
