​Princess Anne County Training School/Union Kempsville High School Museum Reopens on Fridays Beginning Aug. 22

The Princess Anne County Training School/Union Kempsville High School Museum will reopen on Fridays during the summer beginning Aug. 22. The museum’s regular operating hours reflect this change: Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is located inside the Renaissance Academy at 5100 Cleveland St.

The Princess Anne County Training School/Union Kempsville High School Museum is dedicated to the only African American high school that existed in Princess Anne County (now Virginia Beach). The school was open from 1938 until 1969. The Princess Anne County Training School/Union Kempsville High School Museum, as well as the Adam Thoroughgood House, Lynnhaven House and Francis Land House, are owned and operated by the Virginia Beach Department of Museums. The department provides stewardship of the city’s historic resources, as well as programs to educate the community about local history.
