Community service project to enhance Red Wing Park

STIHL Inc. partners with Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation to participate in annual PLANET Day of Service

Friday, April 11, 2014

Portions of Red Wing Park, located at 1398 General Booth Blvd, will be closed to the public on from 8 am – 3 pm on Friday, April 25 and 8 am – 1 pm on Saturday, April 26, 2014, to accommodate landscaping improvements to be made through STIHL Inc.’s community service project as part of the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) Day of Service.

The landscaping enhancements to be performed at Red Wing Park include general tree maintenance and removal of hazardous trees. The eastern section of the park by the wooded trails which includes Shelter 1 & 2 will not be accessible to the public during this time. Parking spots along the wooded side will not be available as well.

The purpose of the annual PLANET Day of Service event is to give professionals in the landscape industry an opportunity to plan, organize, and carry-out volunteer service projects that benefit their own communities. Hundreds of volunteer landscape projects take place each year at schools, community parks, military memorials, libraries, and museums across the country during this annual event. Over the past five years, STIHL employees have volunteered over 1,700 hours and saved the City of Virginia Beach over $70,000 through the company’s participation in PLANET Day of Service.  Additional landscaping assistance will be provided by Man Vs. Tree and K&D Rounds Landscaping.

For additional questions about the closure at Red Wing Park, please contact Mike Moore in Parks & Natural Areas at 757-385-2080 or Shawn Hopson in Landscape Management at 757-385-8424.
