Francis Land House to Close Jan. 7 to 14 for Improvements

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

(Virginia Beach, VA) – Winter is an ideal time for home improvement projects, and historic houses are no exception. On Jan. 7, the day after the Francis Land House annual Twelfth Night celebration, the house will be closed to the public for one week. The house’s dining room and other areas will be painted with a modern oil-based paint, but in colors that were identified as original by historic paint analysis in 1995 and 1996.

The Francis Land House will reopen on Jan. 14 for its regular hours of operation. The house is a circa 1805 plantation home that was built by Francis Moseley Land.  The museum is open six days per week for tours and special educational programs.  The Francis Land House is located at 3131 Virginia Beach Blvd.  Please call 757-385-5100 for additional information or visit the website at
