Blackwater Neighborhood Park to be closed beginning November 1

Long-term renovation improvement project will last through end of February 2014

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Blackwater Neighborhood Park, located at 3390 Head River Road, will be closed for public use beginning November 1, 2013, through approximately February 28, 2014 (weather permitting), for park improvements related to the scheduled renovation of Fire Station 13 – Blackwater (located at 6009 Blackwater Road). Some park amenities currently located at the Blackwater Fire Station site are being relocated to Blackwater Park in order to allow for the Fire Station renovation/replacement.

Based on the improvements to be made at the Blackwater Fire Station renovation project, the nearby Blackwater Neighborhood Park is to gain an additional lighted ballfield, upgraded playground equipment, and an expanded gravel parking lot. The existing lighted ballfield at Blackwater Neighborhood Park will also receive an upgrade, and a new shelter with a picnic table will be added.

Blackwater Neighborhood Park is one of the 265 parks and park facilities in the Virginia Beach City Park system that encompasses over 4,000 acres, including neighborhood and community parks, metro parks, signature parks, natural areas, waterway accesses, trail linkages, open space preservation areas and park athletic facilities. Each park is unique and offers something for everyone, from wide open spaces to playgrounds, picnic shelters, and ballfields.
