Grommet Island Park Now Open

Oceanfront playground park had been closed due to weather impacts

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

Previously closed due to weather impacts, Grommet Island Park, located on 2nd Street by the boardwalk, is now open.

Last week’s storm had pushed large amounts of sand onto the playground, which had to be removed before the park could reopen for safe use.

Grommet Island Park is a fully accessible park, built adjacent to the boardwalk between 1st and 2nd streets allowing individuals with disabilities to easily maneuver across the beach to the ocean. Featuring soft play structures, wheelchair accessible seating, accessible surf-themed play structures and more, this 15,000 square foot accessible play area on the beach is the first of its kind in America. Additional details about this park can be found at http://www.vbgov.com/government/departments/parks-recreation/parks-trails/city-parks/Pages/grommet-island.aspx.
