Virginia Beach Seeks Election Officers

Monday, September 09, 2013

Citizens wishing to serve as officers of election in this November’s general election may volunteer online at  www.sbe.virginia.gov/officers. Local election officials will be automatically notified of volunteer offers through this online submission. The State Board of Elections’ website allows interested persons to choose to receive information on the volunteer process via text message.

Polling places will be busy on Election Day, and general registrars throughout the Commonwealth are seeking reliable and friendly individuals to serve both on Election Day and the days leading up to it. Those who serve as officers of election are an integral part of the elections process and assist citizens in a successful and pleasant voting experience.

Applicants must be registered to vote in Virginia. While officers of election are typically paid for their services, state law allows those serving to volunteer their time, which should eliminate conflicts with employers who do not permit their employees to engage in outside employment, and should increase participation throughout the commonwealth.

Individuals interested in serving as officers of election should visit www.sbe.virginia.gov/officers  and complete the short form. Virginia Beach election officials will be in touch within two weeks. For more information, contact the Virginia Beach General Registrar’s Office at (757) 385-8683 or voter@vbgov.com. For more information on the election, visit the registrar’s website here.
