Free Tax Help at Central and Princess Anne Libraries

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

AARP Tax Aide volunteers are at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library and the Princess Anne Area Library now through April 15, providing citizens with free help filing their state and federal tax returns. To receive tax assistance, citizens must bring a Social Security card for each person listed on the return, including children and other dependents, as well as photo identification, prior year tax returns and 2012 W-2 forms.

The service is available Monday through Saturday at the Central Library, and on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at Princess Anne. Assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Walk-ins are welcome. A full schedule of service hours and other tax-related information may be found on the Tax Preparation page on the library’s website.

About AARP Tax Aide

AARP Foundation Tax Aide is the nation's largest volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service. The volunteers have been helping citizens file taxes at the Central Library for more than 20 years, beginning with pencils and pink erasers in the library’s meeting rooms. Now there’s a dedicated area inside the library with computers and a direct phone line, and volunteers use the library’s Wi-Fi connection to electronically file customers’ paperwork while they wait.

Last year the group filed 5,240 state and federal returns from the Central Library alone, making it AARP’s top filing site in Virginia and the second top producer in the country. For more information about AARP Foundation Tax Aides, visit
