Princess Anne Road Re-Opened to Traffic After Utility Break

Friday, December 14, 2012

Princess Anne Road has been re-opened to all traffic this afternoon after a utility break early Friday morning.

As of 3 p.m., traffic is being allowed in both directions, with one eastbound lane open and two westbound lanes open.   Eastbound lanes will continue to be restricted to one lane throughout the weekend as crews repair the water and gas mains.

A water main broke Thursday evening causing the road beneath an excavator to collapse.   The excavator pierced a gas main during the fall and required Princess Anne Road between Newtown Road and Kempsville Road to close temporarily Friday morning until the excavator could be removed and repairs were begun.

Crews from Virginia Natural Gas, Public Works, Public Utilities, Virginia Beach Fire Department and Virginia Beach police have been on the scene all day to retrieve the excavator, repair the gas main, the water main and direct traffic.
