Transportation Planning

Transportation Planning is the City’s comprehensive home for coordinating short and long-range multi-modal transportation issues.  The intermodal approach to transportation in Virginia Beach includes pedestrians, bicycles, cars and trucks, and public transit.

This division of the Strategic Growth Area (SGA) Department  is the primary contact for work with Hampton Roads Transit, the City’s transit and handi-ride provider.  The division also works with other City agencies as well as our peers in other Hampton Roads communities, the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization, VDOT, and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.

The SGA Department as a whole is leading the City’s interdepartmental team as it continues to study the potential extension of Light Rail or Bus Rapid Transit to the beach, a joint effort with HRT.

The video below features Brian Solis, the city's Transportation and Transit Planning Manager, providing a transportation update to City Council or view the PDF of the presentation here.
