Overview
This project will provide for the study, design, and construction of storm drain improvements to address drainage inadequacies in the Central Resort. The Central Resort project area is approximately 300+ acres and extends from approximately Atlantic Avenue along the east, the Convention Center to the west, 23rd Street to the north, and 17th Street to the south. The improvements will include, but are not limited to, stormwater collection system improvements, channel improvements, stormwater pump stations or pump station modifications, ocean outfall systems, and tidal backflow prevention devices. Previous studies performed to date can be found under Studies on this webpage.
Current Update
Following the passage of the Flood Protection Program Bond Referendum in November 2021, Virginia Beach voters supported authorization of $567.5M dollars of debt to fund design and construction of 21 Phase 1 projects. This includes the Central Resort District Drainage Improvements (CIP 7-041, 100062) and Central Resort District – 24th Street Culvert CIP 7-064 (100061) projects.
