Remembering our Fallen Heroes: Vessel and Vehicle Naming

On November 6, 2015, the Police Department conducted a ceremony at the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Museum wherein, the department's Marine Patrol boats, helicopters and Mobile Command Vehicle were named in honor of officers who have died in service to our City and country.  The ceremony was attended by a number of city officials as well as department members, citizens, and most importantly, family members of the fallen officers.

The order of precedence for naming the department specialty vehicles was from the most recent officer killed in the line of duty backwards, for as many of the current specialty vehicles in the inventory.  The ceremony was inspiring and moving, and meant a great deal to all who were gathered there to share the moment.
