Deputy Chief Reo Hatfield - Administrative Division

Deputy Chief Reo Hatfield joined the Virginia Beach Police Department in 1997 after serving on active duty with the United States Marine Corps.  He has served in all four precincts, Special Investigations Bureau, Special Operations Bureau, Internal Affairs Bureau, and the Chief’s Staff. 

As a supervisor, he has served in several different roles in operations to include: Oceanfront Community Policing Supervisor, Executive Aide to the Police Chief, SWAT Team Leader, Tactical Commander, Command Duty Officer, Commanding Officer of the Third Precinct, and Commanding Officer of Special Investigations Bureau. 

Deputy Chief Hatfield holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Troy University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology from Saint Leo University, and a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice from the University of Virginia. Additionally, he is a graduate of the 263rd Session of the FBI National Academy, Senior Management Institute for Police (PERF), United States Naval War College-Command and Staff, and the Joint Forces Staff College- Joint and Combined Warfighting School.

In 2003, he received a direct commission in the United States Navy Reserve and is currently serving as a Commanding Officer. His combined military service includes three combat tours in the three separate theaters of operation.
