Right of way permits are required for any activity within the right of way or easements belonging to the City of Virginia Beach.The activities may include, but are not limited to the following:Installation of utilities, i.e. Cox Cable, Virginia Natural Gas, Telephone and Virginia PowerInstallation of storm drain piping which would also require an approved plan as well as a right of way permitInstallation of new drivewaysOpen cutting of a roadway or sidewalk for repair or installation of utilitiesAny blocking of a lane of traffic or a sidewalk for which a traffic and pedestrian control plan is requiredAny encroachment into the City right of wayHow are right of way permit inspections handled?Right of Way Inspection:Permits are generally reviewed and approved by Civil Inspections within seven working days of receipt of the application. Permits state the conditions and requirements for activities to take place.How much does a right of way permit cost?Right of Way Permit Cost: The fee for a right of way permit from Civil Inspections is $100.00. The permit is valid for one year from the date of issuance.Right of way permits may be obtained in two locations:The Civil Inspections office is located at 2875 Sabre Street, Suite 500.
