Adult Softball

Adult Softball Leagues are offered in the spring and fall at various ballfields throughout the city. Both competitive and recreational leagues are available. Teams may carry up to 20 players. Games consist of doubleheaders per night of play.

All leagues will use the following balls:​

  • Men - Optic Yellow 12 inch .52 COR and 300 Compression ball with A.S.A. Stamp
  • Women - Optic Yellow 11 inch .52 COR and 300 Compression ball with A.S.A. Stamp
  • COED - Ball will alternate between male and female batters: 12" for males, 11" for females

Optic yellow balls are required for all leagues. COR/compression and A.S.A. stamp must be legible. Teams hit their own balls in all games.

​​​​​​​​​​​Levels of Play

  • 5+1HR offers an advanced level of competition for skilled teams. This is the top level of competition, with a 5 home run limit per game.
  • 3HR offers an intermediate level of competition for skilled teams, with a 3 home run limit per game.
  • 1HR offers a competitive league for lower skill level teams, with less experienced players, and a 1 home run limit per game.
  • Recreation offers a beginner level of play for recreational teams.  This is the lowest level of play for teams with little or no experience.  There is a 1 home run limit per game.


Registration Information​​

  • Registration is taken on a team basis:
    • ​Register online
    • Register in person at the Sports Management Office (4001 Dam Neck Road)
  • Each team pays a franchise fee to enter (payable at registration)
    • Competitive leagues (includes playoffs): $600
    • Recreational league (no playoffs): $525​
    • Women’s League (playoffs for top 2 finishing teams): $525
  • ​​14-16 games guaranteed​
  • Players must be at least 18 years old or a high school graduate. Players under 18 years of age who are high school graduates or graduating high school seniors must provide written parental consent. Players under 18 years of age can only be added by submitting a team roster or player addition form with the written parental consent attached.
  • ​Leagues are subject to close-out prior to the last day of signups
  • Individuals who are looking to join a team can contact the Sports Management Office for more information. Placement is not guaranteed.​​​

Spring 2019 Season

  • Registration: February 11 - March 3, 2019​ (Late registrations will be accepted as space allows from March 4 - 6​. A $50 late registration fee applies.​)
  • Divisions Offered: Men's, Women's, ​Coed, Men's Church, Coed Church
  • Residency requirement: 60% (none for 5+1HR, Women's)
  •  Church League residency requirement waived if church is in Virginia Beach
  • Practices:  March 22 – April 4 (if desired)
    • Once your team registration payment has been processed, contact the Sports Management Office at (757) 385-0458 (M-F 8am-5pm) to reserve up to three practice times
    • Practice reservations must be made by 5pm, Wednesday, March 20 and are available on a first come, first served basis
    • Most practices will incur a $10 lighting fee
  • Season (approximate):  Early April through mid-July 2019
  • Winner and Runner-Up advance to Tidewater Championships

    • Coed (top league)
