Join the Sister Cities of Virginia Beach and Miyazaki, Japan in celebrating spring, peace and goodwill during the cherry blossom season at this annual event featuring cultural music and dance, art and crafts and martial arts demonstrations. Concessions and community vendors will be available. Event partners include the Sister Cities Association and JEEC. Sponsors/Contributors include Larry King Law and Japan VA Society.  ​Learn More​

Ghoula PaloozaEarth Day 50th Anniversary Celebration 

Saturday, April 18 ​ 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. | Mount Trashmore Park

The Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation Earth Day 2020 Celebration will mark the 50 Year Anniversary since its conception on April 22, 1970 in Wisconsin. The event will feature environmental and science exhibits, interactive displays, demos, a recycling zone, crafts, games, food and live entertainment. It will also feature a volunteer litter cleanup up of Lake Windsor and an Earth Day 5K Race and a Mile Fun Run-Walk hosted by the Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation Foundation. Celebrate your commitment to bettering the environment and join us on this great day by exploring more ways to make our planet a better place. Celebrating ChildrenCelebrating Children

Saturday, April 25 ​ 9 a.m. - noon | Mount Trashmore Park

This annual event is a collaborative effort from Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation and Virginia Beach GrowSmart to honor the Month of the Military Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month. Come out and show your support by participating in a 1.5-mile walk/run. There will also be live entertainment, amusements and exhibitor booths. ​

Beep! Beep! Rev your engines and let your kids experience the thrill of sitting behind the wheel of some of their favorite 4-wheeled vehicles including a fire truck, a police car, street sweeper, dump truck and more. Temporary tattoos, children's crafts, tire flipping and inflatables will add to the excitement! Low sensory hour will be offered from noon - 1 pm for individuals who are sensitive to loud sounds or blinking lights. The Autism Society will be onsite to provide information to attendees about their awesome organization. This event is free event for all ages. ​

Come out and watch municipal firefighters compete in “full bunker gear” and a Scott 5.5 Air-Pak breathing apparatus as they simulate the real-life physical demands by performing a linked series of tasks as they race against the clock. This exciting event is in collaboration with the Virginia Beach Fire Department.  ​

Join the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) and volunteer for Clean the Bay Day, an annual Virginia Beach community clean-up event that is the largest coordinated clean-up effort in the State. Clean the Bay Day takes place at various sites throughout the city and is in partnership with Public Works/Waste Management and the Virginia Beach Clean Community Commission. ​Learn More​

Mount Trashmore Summer CarnivalVirginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries​ Free Fishing Day

Saturday, June 6 ​ 8 a.m. - noon | Mount Trashmore Park​

Take advantage of this annual free day of legal fishing without a fishing license at designated sites. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will be on-site with equipment and staff to assist in the proper use of fishing equipment.

Kick-off your shoes and join us for a concert in the sand.  Enjoy live music, food and dancing all staged around the scenic Little Island Park and Fishing Pier in Sandbridge. Onsite parking is available and free after 5 p.m. This event sponsored by Siebert Realty and is free and open to the public.

Family Fishing ClinicFamily Fishing Clinic 

Saturday, September 26 ​ 8 a.m. - noon | Lake Smith/Lake Lawson

Come out for a day of Family Fishing where child(ren) will tackle the basics of angling Virginia's waters at this free family fishing clinic. Team up with experienced fishermen for guided instruction and beginner fishing skills. Fishing poles, tackle and bait provided if needed. Lunch is included. Space is limited to the first 125 registered participants so mark your calendar and continue to check back for registration to become available.

In the spirit of the season, join us for the first annual pumpkin roll at Mount Trashmore! Will you win a prize and make it to the finish line or will your pumpkin get SMASHED?! Don’t miss this unique opportunity to roll something down the mountain. Other fall festivities such as a hayride will complete the afternoon.  Food trucks will be onsite.
